Current Projects Happening in downtown Union City

Downtown Improvement Grant 2024-2026

Main Street Union City was one of 17 communities throughout the state of Tennessee to be awarded the Downtown Improvement Grant (DIG) by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD). Union City was awarded $300,000 to help with facade updates on the west side of S. First St. This is a reimbursable grant for the organization.

Over the course of the next two years, community members and visitors will begin to see a transformation of downtown Union City in the shopping and entertainment district. Preserving the downtown buildings and recruiting businesses to come to downtown is part of the Main Street Four-Point Approach. Main Streets across America are an arm of economic impact, and downtown Union City will benefit from these updates.

Reelfoot Brewing Company Moves to Downtown Union City

Main Street Union City is excited about the newest business to open in downtown Union City in the summer of 2024. Reelfoot Brewing Company is on the corner of First and Church Streets and will be serving local beers and small bites. Co-owner Eric Sanford is excited to move the brewing to downtown Union City, especially since the area is growing, buildings are being renovated and the community members are interested in what’s happening in downtown Union City.

The brewery is scheduled to open late July 2024.

Mural Project 2023

Downtown Union City is getting a fresh look with a new mural in Merchant’s Park, thanks to the “Run the Rails” team who raised the funds to give back to downtown. Toney Little, who was raised in Union City, is the artist behind the masterpiece. His choice of medium is spray paint, with vibrant colors showcasing landmarks of Union City, including Discovery Park of America’s Cooper Tower; Obion County’s #1 row crop, corn; the railroad tracks, a homage to Union City’s intersection of the Nashville and Northwestern Railroad with the Mobile and Ohio Railroad; the historic Capitol Theatre, located in downtown; and the Reelfoot Meat Packing chimney stack, a landmark that many recall seeing as they grew up in Union City.

This new mural is just the beginning of many projects that investors of Main Street Union City help fund.
