MAIN STREET UNION CITY ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS EVENTS

Nov. 1 , 2024

UNION CITY, TENN.Main Street Union City has several events scheduled that will get the community in the spirit of Christmas.

Downtown Union City is kicking off the Christmas season a little earlier this year. Main Street will present the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thurs., Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in front of the Obion County Courthouse with Santa and Mrs. Claus taking photos at the tree prior to the event from 4 to 6 p.m. During the ceremony, guests will enjoy the voices of both the Union City and the Obion County choirs before the countdown begins to light the tree.

Another special addition to this evening includes downtown merchants staying open late for guests to begin their Christmas shopping and kick off Christmas Open House Weekend. Shopping local is a great way to support locally-owned and operated shops and eateries, as well as make an economic impact in Union City.

“We wanted to do something special this year to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season,” said Katie Graves, executive director for Main Street. “Having events such as the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony combined with Christmas Open House Weekend creates a fun event for our community and officially welcomes the Christmas season downtown. We want to encourage everyone to shop locally before or after the tree lighting ceremony since the majority of our downtown merchants will be open late on this evening.”

Downtown merchants and restaurants who will be open later on Nov. 14 include Beau & Arrow; Bill’s Wood Works; Bizinka Bakery; Bricks & Brews; The Chocolate Bunny; Peddlers Mart; Reelfoot Brewing Company; Renew Medical Spa; Scott’s Grill; Sisters Antiques; Stillwater Salon; The Record Shop; Thrift Plus; Tiny Baker; and Vantage Coffee Roasters. Two new businesses that will make their debut on Nov. 14 include Agora Art Gallery and the highly-anticipate new location of Deep South Boutique, both located on S. First St. in the heart of downtown.

On Thurs., Dec. 5, Main Street will host the “Union City Christmas Parade” and 6:30 p.m. down S. First Street. Businesses who would like to participate in the parade can register online. There is a required $10 registration fee per vehicle that can be paid online. Unique floats and decorated vehicles are highly encouraged. Candy can be passed out this year, but cannot be thrown from moving vehicles.
