MAIN STREET UNION CITY ANNOUNCES HOLIDAY EVENTS

UNION CITY, TENN. – Main Street Union City is getting ready to kick off the holidays in downtown Union City. There are several events happening within the next month that will get the community in the spirit of Christmas.

“Main Street’s mission is to revitalize the economy, enhance the historical charm and preserve the architectural heritage of the downtown district of Union City,” said Katie Graves, executive director for Main Street Union City. “Having events such as the Christmas Open House Weekend and Small Business Saturday keeps the money spent with our locally-owned and operated businesses within our community.”

Main Street’s “Christmas Open House Weekend” is Fri., Nov. 10 and Sat., Nov. 11. Downtown merchants will be decorated for Christmas and will have unique gifts for everyone in the family. Shopping local is a great way to support locally-owned and operated shops and eateries, as well as make an economic impact in Union City.

On Nov. 11, Bricks and Brews will open at noon for all shoppers to take a lunch break before continuing to shop locally. Shoppers who show their receipts from any local downtown business at Vantage Coffee from 2 to 4 p.m. can redeem a free “Cup of Cheer!” thanks to Westan Insurance.

Small Business Saturday” is on Sat., Nov. 25. Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. This is an annual event that was created to encourage consumers to shop locally in person and online at small businesses. Main Streets across the country are all about shopping and supporting locally-owned and operated businesses in the downtown districts. This is a perfect way to give back and help small businesses thrive during the holiday season.

On “Small Business Saturday,” Bricks and Brews will be open for lunch, and you can redeem a free “Small Sip” at Vantage Coffee from 2 to 4 p.m. for shopping local. Simply show your receipt from any small local business in downtown Union City to redeem your free coffee. The “Small Sips” are sponsored by Leaders Credit Union.

On Thurs., Dec. 7, Main Street will present the annual “Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony” and  “Christmas Parade.” Main Street officials share that Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Christmas Tree in front of the Obion County Courthouse from 4 to 6 p.m. for photos with children. Hot chocolate stations will be set up beginning at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., Main Street officials will welcome the community and introduce the emcee for the evening, Joe Ward with First Citizens National Bank. Children’s choirs from both Union City Schools and Obion County Schools will sing songs of Christmas cheer before the official lighting of the tree.

The Christmas Parade will begin after the ceremony at 7 p.m. down S. First Street. Businesses who would like to participate in the parade can register online. There is a required $10 registration fee that can be paid online. Unique floats and decorated vehicles are highly encouraged. Candy can be passed out this year, but cannot be thrown from moving vehicles.
